On 8 April, the Municipal Council of Oeiras launched a new portal dedicated to Villa Oeiras, a fortified dessert wine from the Wine-Growing Region of Carcavelos, produced by the Municipality.
You can discover the valuable gastronomic heritage of Villa Oeiras wine at www.villaoeiras.com.
The site introduces us to the history of the Terroir of the Carcavelos wines and presents the vineyard project, which already dates back six centuries. You will also find small curiosities about the project, as well as some suggestions for harmonising Villa Oeiras, by Rodolfo Tristão, Sommelier at the restaurant Belcanto.
Villa Oeiras is a fortified wine, produced in one of the smallest appellations of origin in the country, in Carcavelos, which continues to amaze wine experts. The brand recently won two awards in the Press Choice Competition, organised by Grandes Escolhas, where the wine ‘Villa Oeiras Vintage 2009’ won the “Grand Prix – Press Choice 2020” and ‘Villa Oeiras 7-Year Blend’ won the “2020 Press Choice Award”.
These two awards are in addition to a wide range of awards that Villa Oeiras has won in recent years, proving its excellent quality and confirming the municipality’s commitment to continuing its production.
It was in 1988, during the presidency of Isaltino Morais, that the Municipal Council of Oeiras decided to collaborate with the National Agronomic Research Station to recover the vineyards of Carcavelos, finally taking full responsibility for the project in 2006. The Municipality of Oeiras thus became the only Local Authority in the country to produce a wine recognised and respected nationally and internationally by specialists.
Through the new website, you can also book a guided tour of the vineyards and ageing and production cellars and taste the wines of Villa Oeiras: a fortified, full-bodied wine, with honey tones, which makes up one of the four magnificent Portuguese dessert wines, which are also available for sale through the new website’s online store.
