The Municipality of Oeiras was present at the 2023 SciComPt Congress, promoting citizen science and society participation.
The 2023 SciComPt Congress took place in Bragança between May 3 and 5. The event was marked by transversality and transparency, in a meeting that brought together more than 200 professionals in science communication.
Head of the Office for Science and Innovation of the Municipality of Oeiras, Elisabete Brigadeiro was a member of the panel “The role of municipalities in promoting science and the involvement of society.” Other than Elisabete, Maria João Leão, coordinator of the program Ciência + Cidadã; António Gomes da Costa, head of the Science and Society Unit of Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência; Maria Vicente, coordinator of the Open Science Platform of the Municipality of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo; and Cristina Luís, researcher at CIUHCT – Interuniversity Center for the History of Science and Technology and promoter of the Portuguese Citizen Science Network, renowned professionals in the area, were also present.
Another highlight was the communication on the Ciência + Cidadã program, of which Elisabete Brigadeiro and Maria José Amândio were co-authors. The program is the result of a partnership between the Municipality of Oeiras, Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência and ITQB NOVA.
During the congress, several works supported by the Municipality of Oeiras in collaboration with Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência and ITQB NOVA were also presented. Among other initiatives, the Lab in a Box project and mentoring in the Science Clubs of Oeiras stand out. The projects aim to bring science closer to the local citizens, to spark the interest in scientific activities and stimulate participation.
By participating in the 2023 SciComPt 2023 Congress the Municipality of Oeiras reinforces its commitment to promoting science, innovation and society’s engagement. Through strategic partnerships and inclusive initiatives, the Municipality of Oeiras also seeks to consolidate itself as a reference hub in terms of scientific dissemination and in stimulating citizen participation in the advancement of knowledge.
