COGITO 2021: ‘Technological Humanism’ returns to Oeiras with a theme dedicated to technology and the way in which it is transforming society and our lives. From 8 September, and until the end of November, follow the more than 80 events of the Cogito – ideas that transform.
The Municipality of Oeiras brings back COGITO – Ideas that transform. This time, the COGITO brings over 80 events and will address technological humanism. The theme of this event arises from the question: is technology turning us into better or worse people?
From 8 September, and until the end of November, you may attend various initiatives, including Creative Conversations, Citizen Laboratories and Masterclasses.
Masterclasses and creativity
Participate in the Masterclasses and discover the answer to the question “Are we on the way towards a post-human society?” with the scientist Carlos Fiolhais or “Will technology be able to end all disease?” with the CEO of iBET, Paula Alves, among many other themes. As has become traditional, the showcase of ideas continues every Monday in the COGITO newsletter.
COGITO 2021: For the first time, Technological Humanism brings the Creative Marathon: a game for families and friends that takes place live in the historical centre of Oeiras, on the morning of 7 November, in which a lesson in creativity is mixed with pure entertainment. All citizens can have lessons in creativity, in an online format, on Fridays in October and November.
News and Oeiras 27
This year, the institutions of Oeiras are beginning a special initiative in which help is offered to solve problems in an original manner. The Creativity Laboratory, held on Tuesdays, will provide participants with training in creativity and consultancy services in innovation. Pitch Elevator, focusing on business innovation in Oeiras, will also be launched.
The future of Oeiras will also be under discussion on 7 October, under the Oeiras Day 27, to be held all day at Flor da Murta Palace, in Paço de Arcos. In the morning, three panels of guest speakers will talk about science, art and technology, sustainability and spatial planning. In the afternoon, citizens will be given the opportunity to present their ideas, find out about and receive information regarding how Oeiras 27 is going to change the county.
In all these conversations, any citizen may intervene and ask the guest speakers questions. On 20 November, the Oeiras 27 Forum welcomes all those who wish to present in public their ideas for the city’s future.
Creative Conversations and Citizen Laboratories
COGITO 2021 also covers new areas of public debate, such as cities and the arts. During the month of September, Creative Conversations will take place about the state of the arts involving a prominent local figure from Oeiras and another of national renown.
These conversations will seek to answer questions such as “What do we learn from the plastic arts?” or “What do we learn from music?” clearly and conclusively.
In turn, the Citizen Laboratories will be an open space for citizens to watch challenging conversations and participate with questions for the speakers in an online Laboratory of conversations divided into three cycles: Science in Oeiras, Going Further and Smart Cities.
During the months of September, October and November, thirteen conversations will be held, on themes such as: “Why has life not become extinct?”, “What are the secrets of the Darknet and the Deep Web?” and “What will change with the Internet of Things?”
All the activities are free of charge and promoted by the Municipality of Oeiras.
