Encontro Nacional de Ciência Cidadã 2021 em Oeiras

The National Citizen Science Meeting 2021 ‘Building bridges for a participatory science’ will take place in Oeiras, on 25 and 26 November, at Oeiras Municipal Library.

The 3rd National Citizen Science Meeting 2021 will take place on 25 and 26 November, in Oeiras. The focus of the event is “building bridges for a participatory science”, through sharing and discussing good practice, leading to greater involvement of all in research and innovation processes, through citizen science. The event is free of charge, simply sign up on the platform of the event.

Science and innovation are essential for finding solutions for the urgent challenges facing contemporary society, but in order for that to happen, it is essential to meet citizens’ needs, values and aspirations.

Citizen science thus constitutes a powerful tool for democratising and building trust in science, driving the opening up of the research and innovation system to the participation and collective thinking of society.

Oeiras Municipal Library is going to offer various forums for debate and meeting aimed at scientists, citizen scientists and all those interested in knowing more about questions of citizen science.

Oeiras aims to place science in the hands of its citizens, as it has been doing for several years, under the umbrella of participative citizenship, which seeks to encourage citizens to participate in science and use it to explore and solve problems in their communities.

As a central space in the community, Oeiras Municipal Library has a particular interest in this essential question, due to its potential to forge closer ties and encourage involvement between science and society.

Although, at national level, it is still a relatively recent concept for many, citizen science has gradually emerged as an area in rapid expansion, both in academia and in civil society, in various areas of knowledge.

This greater recognition and visibility have led to the formulation of new public policies and the provision of international funding.
