In the week marked by the return of the “teleschool”, many children and young people across the country are trying to adapt their study routines to the contingencies imposed by the COVID-19 outbreak. To support Oeiras students and teachers in this adaptation effort, the Municipality of Oeiras decided to provide technological equipment (among them are 1.944 computers, tablets and smartphones) to students and teachers who did not have these resources to accompany distance learning. With this measure, the Municipal Executive takes another step to achieve one of the main objectives of the current mandate: to have the best students in the country in the municipality of Oeiras.
In order to achieve this objective, the Oeiras City Council has set in motion the implementation of several programmes in the area of Education. One of them is Oeiras Educa, a programme that celebrated its one year anniversary last February. Get to know the Oeiras Educa programme in a little more detail.
Oeiras Educa had more than 1.000 registered teachers in the first year
Launched in February 2019, Oeiras Educa covers the 46 state schools in the Municipality of Oeiras, covering Preschool Education and Primary and Secondary Education students, in a total of 829 classes and 20.055 students. The aim of the programme is to link formal education with the non-formal education in the municipality of Oeiras, creating facilitating mechanisms for this purpose.
Oeiras Educa consists of an online portal, a dedicated transport service and an Observatory. With these tools, Oeiras Educa allows the municipality’s educational community to schedule activities with the aim of linking education to the territory.
In its first year of activity, the programme was attended by more than 1.088 teachers, and the most sought after initiatives were related to visits outside the school, to which school transport was requested.
The Oeiras Educa online portal thus appears as a direct communication channel between Oeiras teachers and the Municipality. After online registration, teachers can make targeted searches, according to the eight subject areas available: Environment and Sustainability; Performing arts; Visual arts; Science and Technology; History and Heritage; Language and Literature; Health and Welfare and Society and Citizenship). They can also choose to make these searches according to the level of education.
