Algés will receive a new pilot project, the Bairro Comercial Digital (Digital Shopping District), which has received European Community funding.
This project is the result of a successful application the municipality submitted and entitled “Algés Tem Tudo” (Algés Has it All). It will provide local merchants with an electronic platform that will allow them to improve their business and get even closer to consumers. At the same time, it plans to rehabilitate the downtown area of Algés, which will involve installing common connectivity systems and street furniture.
With the Bairro Comercial Digital initiative, Oeiras is also contributing to the revival of the municipality’s historic center.
With a total investment of EUR 1.9 million, of which EUR 1.14 million comes from the European fund, the project is about to get underway. This is expected to happen in the last quarter of this year and it should be fully operational by the end of 2025.
This project was one of the 95 selected out of 187 applications and there is hope that it can later be extended to other historic centers in Oeiras, boosting local traditional commerce, both physically and digitally.
