The entrepreneurial drive of Oeiras is reflected in the figures. According to data updated in March of this year, Oeiras is the second municipality in the country, after Lisbon, to register the highest turnover among non-financial companies. The figures are for 2018 and show that in total the companies established in Oeiras generated a turnover of over 25 billion euros. This is an increase of 6% compared with the previous year.
The statistics of the Integrated Accounting System of Companies, of the INE, further indicate that the turnover generated by companies in the municipality of Oeiras is double that of companies established in the municipalities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, which recorded a turnover of 14.8 billion euros and 8.8 billion euros respectively.

Analysing the data in more detail, within the municipality of Oeiras, the non-financial companies that have a greater influence in wealth generation belong to the wholesale and retail trade sector, followed by companies in the area of manufacturing industries and companies with administrative activities and support services. The information and communication activities sector is also mentioned.
The economic dynamism of the municipality was recently highlighted by the Mayor of Oeiras, Isaltino Morais, during his speech as part of the commemorations for Municipality Day, celebrated on 7 June. “If we are presenting impressive figures in terms of economic development, particularly with regard to the information and communication technologies sector and the pharmaceutical sector, this is due to a lot of study, work and belief. As eternal nonconformists, we continue to work for the future”. On the same occasion, the Mayor pointed out: “These figures, associated with a business dynamic based on knowledge, make Oeiras the laboratory for the transformation of the country”.
It should be noted that Oeiras is home to over 24,000 companies, and is the choice of national and international benchmark companies. In addition to having a good network of office and business park infrastructures, Oeiras also has a high concentration of qualified human capital and is host to a number of entities dedicated to science and Research & Development. Its proximity to Lisbon airport and the fact that it combines a wide range of quality of life indicators are also some of the factors that attract companies to the municipality.
