In June of last year, the new competition car presented by the students of the Formula Student of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) performed excellently in European competitions.
The first competition vehicle with autonomous and non-autonomous capacities, the FST11, received the support of the City Council of Oeiras in its development. This is a competition car which assembles the high performances of previous models, with the added feature of autonomous driving. The goal is thus to reach the ideal combination between the driving methods – driver dependent and autonomous – in order to obtain maximal performance from the prototype.
The model was competing in the biggest world competition, the Formula Student Germany, where it reached 3rd place in the Driverless Cup. The FST11 attended yet another competition, the Formula Student Spain, where the team won 1st place in the category of autonomous prototype, winning for the first time a Formula Student competition.
